THREE MO' TENORS

This spellbinding celebration of the African-American tenor voice is entertainment for all the family. As seen on PBS, versatility is the highlight of this show! These tenors hit those high C's in Opera, belt out Broadway, bend and scat notes in Jazz and stir your soul with haunting Gospel and Spirituals! With each new style, they're completely at home. Three Mo' Tenors played Columbus last season to rave reviews in the Columbus Dispatch. You don't want to miss this one!

TIM CONWAY & DON KNOTTS

Officially reuniting in early 1992 after not performing together for over 17 years, Little Anthony & The Imperials are taking the stage by storm with audiences showing their approval with rousing applause! BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS

This group successfully brought about the fusion of rock and jazz by building a strong horn section to play right up front with other band members. Together, these sounds stormed the pop charts. With David Clayton Thomas as lead singer, BS&T produced hits like 'You've Made Me So Very Happy', which rose to the number two spot on the charts, and was quickly followed by chart toppers 'Spinning Wheel' and 'And When I Die'. THE COLUMBUS JAZZ ORCHESTRA

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra is well known for its big brassy sound, artist outreach programs and in-school productions for children. Performances feature the music of big band masters Kenton, Basie, Ellington and Goodman as well as new music that has been commissioned. All permanent members are outstanding instrumentalists, having earned their musical education the old-fashioned way, 'on the road'. Don't miss the big sound of this great swing orchestra!

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY MARCHING BAND

The TBDBITL members come from every walk of life and major in everything from Anthropology to Zoology. Although music majors make up a small percentage of the band's numbers, the musical standards are very high and everyone goes through marching and playing auditions. With humble beginnings as a 12 piece, all male ROTC band, today the band boasts 225 marching members. Celebrate the "Buckeye" spirit with us when the TBDBITL takes over the Palace Theatre.

Family Matinee Series
It's Sunday afternoon.  The kids are bored.  Is there nothing to do?  We have just the answer!  Children, bring you parents and grandparents to these live theatre performances geared to preschool and elementary aged audiences.  All shows begin at 2:00 p.m.  and last approximately one hour.  Performed by top-notch theatre companies like NYC's Theatreworks USA, Theatre IV, and Columbus Children's Theatre, this series offers great opportunities for family fun!  For more information, call the box office (740) 383-2101.
Tickets are available at the door beginning at 1 pm.
$5 at the door or $20 for the Series of 5 shows.

The Pied Piper -- Rats, rats, and more rats!  Hamlin is full of 'em.  Rats are skating in the washtubs, playing marbles on the cobblestones, popping out of chimneys, flowerpots, and hats.  The mayor hires "rat catchers" who charge outrageous fees and get no results.  Finally, the mysterious Pied Piper arrives in town and promises to play a tune the rats will find irresistible, solving the town's rat problems once and for all.  This wonderful musical comes complete with live actors in clever and colorful costumes, cartloads of rat puppets, and an ultimately happy ending!

A Christmas Carol -- By Charles Dickens, Music and Lyrics by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill
This classic, best-loved holiday story is an adaptation of Dickens' original.  Particularly suited for children, this time-proven favorite features a magnificent musical score and contains all the joy, sentiment and meaning that Dickens included in his original, without being too scary for young audiences.

The Emperor's New Clothes -- The Columbus Children's Theatre is well known for its original adaptations of favorite tales.  This production was brand new in 2002 and brings this classic fairy tale to life with the help of children, using the strength of Columbus Children's Theatre--audience participation.  Meet the cunning tailor, the gullible king, and the brave young boy who reveals the truth in this fun-filled tale of the Emperor's folly.

February 9, 2003

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs -- This musical adaptation of the classic Grimm's fairy tale features a faithful script with lovable characters portrayed by an ensemble of live actors and wonderful puppets.  Follow along as Snot White meets her pint-sized friends, takes the apple from the Evil Queen, receives a kiss from the prince, and lives happily ever after.

March 16, 2003

Oz -- Frank Baum's classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, gets turned inside out in this creative and hilarious play.  Set in Chicago circa 1900, our play finds Baum and his housekeeper, Bridgey Sullivan, together with a darling imp of a little girl named Dot, reenacting scenes from the book.  With a potbelly stove for the tin Man, stuffing from the sofa for the Scarecrow, and a bearskin rug for the Cowardly Lion, the fun starts and never stops!

Travel & Adventure Cinema Series
Audiences of all ages are encouraged to check out our new day and time for these live, narrated travel films.  Visit destinations both near and far while enjoying the comforts of the Palace as filmmakers take you on a journey through their new e-cinema productions.  For more information, call the box office (740) 383-2101.
Tickets are $5 each, $2 for students, entire series for $20.

All shows are on Sundays at 2 pm. Wurlitzer organ concert begins a half hour before each film. Tickets are available at the door beginning at 1 pm.

School Series
Contact your school today to learn which of these entertaining and educational shows your students are scheduled to attend.  This season will link education and the arts through performances of classic literature, science, history and music.  All performances are at 9:55 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  The cost is $2.50 per student for each performance.  These shows are available to the public and reservations are required and can be made on a first come, first served basis by contacting the box office (740) 383-2101.  
The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe - Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - Grades 3-7
This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe.  The children fulfill an ancient prophecy by defeating the witch, thus restoring sunshine and peace to spellbound Narnia.
Just So Stories - Friday, November 22, 2002 - Grades K-4
Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories, this new musical's characters weave together delightful, informative and nonsensical tales that explain how important things came to be like how the elephant got his long nose, how the leopard got his spots, and how the camel got his hump.  Curiosity and the joy of discovery rule the day!
The Buffalo Soldiers - Tuesday, February 25, 2003 - Grades 3-8
Based on the true story of our nation's longest-surviving Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American War, this dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the brave African-American soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries, who served our country well with little of the recognition they deserved.
Charlotte's Web - Thursday, April 24, 2003 - Grades PS-3
Based on E.B. White's loving story of friendship between pig and spider, this play with incidental music offers up the story of Charlotte's miracle web that helps keep Wilbur from becoming pork chops!  This treasured tale, featuring madcap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.
The Wright Stuff - Thursday, May 1, 2003 - Grades 3-8
In this historic yet scientific production, students meet Orville and Wilbur Wright, barely out of their teens, in a way they won't soon forget.  The audience learns first hand the difficulties these two bicycle mechanics experienced as they teamed with their studious sister to out-invent the world's top scientists and achieve the timeless dream of flight.
