75th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Picture it -- August 30, 1928, and it is opening night at the Marion Palace Theatre. Eager patrons line the streets of downtown Marion to get a glimpse of what renowned theatre architect John Eberson has created, a Vaudeville/movie palace. Join us as we look back at those early days of entertainment presented at the Palace Theatre. This special evening is set aside to celebrate how far we’ve come and all that the Palace has meant to the arts throughout the years. The sounds of the mighty Wurlitzer organ will fill this beautiful, atmospheric auditorium when Dennis James takes to the keyboard. This special event will also feature the screening of a silent film and Vaudeville acts with Barbershop harmonies, offering a wonderful trip down memory lane.

CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE THEATRE'S ROMEO & JULIET

A city, two families, and a rivalry so old that no one can remember its cause. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, fall in love in a culture of old hatreds. Four hundred years after Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet, we see in its characters and their story ourselves, our families, our world. Shakespeare’s characters are faced with choices and so are we -- will it be words or swords that we choose to steer our lives?
Each year Chicago Shakespeare Theater receives widespread critical acclaim for artistic excellence and its accessible, creative approach to Shakespeare’s work.
